Your Library Card

Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.

Patron membership

Membership at the Lumberton Public Library is open equally to all citizens of Texas ages five (5) and up.   Patrons will need to fill out an application card.  If under 18 years of age, the applicant must have a parent or legal guardian cosign the application form, and the adult cosigner must sign the application card in person.  Applicants will need to provide a government-issued photographic identification card (such as a driver's license) and two (2) forms of proof of their current address.  If the applicant has a valid driver's license listing their current address, only one (1) additional proof of address is required.

The initial library card is free; however, replacement cards are $3.00 each.

The Lumberton Public Library will issue individual cards to each family member that meets the requirements for membership, and each patron must present their card to check out books or utilize other Library services.

Borrowing Limits

Each cardholder may borrow up to ten (10) items on their card.  The only other limitation is on movies and video games.  These items are limited to four (4) per family, regardless of the number of cardholders in the family.

Placing Holds

When an item is checked out, the patron can place the item "on hold," meaning that when the item is returned, the Library will hold the book for the patron and call the patron to inform them that the item in question has been returned.  This can be done remotely on our website, or it can be done in the library.  Please contact the library staff for an explanation on how to place a hold on an item.  Also, please understand that an item can have multiple holds placed on it by other patrons, so there may be a "waiting list" for an item.  Items are distributed to patrons based on who first put the hold on the particular item.

Renewing Your Borrowed Items

Borrowed items can be renewed once, except for movies and video games, which cannot be renewed.  An item cannot be renewed if it has a pending hold placed on it (see above).  A patron can renew items remotely through our website, can call us at (409) 755-7400 and ask a staff member to renew your books, or you can ask a staff member at the circulation desk to renew your items.  Please note that if an item is overdue when renewed, it will still have a fine levied until the date that it was renewed.

Library Fines

Fines are five cents ($.05) per day on items that can be checked out for three weeks (books, audiobooks, magazines, etc.).  Fines are $1.00 per day on items that can be checked out for seven days or less (movies, video games, etc.).
