Lumberton Public Library Circulation and Fine Policy

Lumberton Public Library Circulation and Fine Policy

Lumberton Public Library has three classifications of materials: Standard Circulation, Limited Circulation, and Reference. Standard Circulation materials (most books, audiobooks, and magazines, for example) check out for three (3) weeks and accrue an overdue fine of five cents ($.05) per day. Standard Circulation items can be renewed once for an additional period of three (3) weeks as long as the item in question does not have an outstanding hold for another patron. Limited circulation items (most videos and video games, for example) check out for one (1) week and accrue an overdue fine of one dollar ($1.00) per day. Limited Circulation items cannot be renewed.   Reference items do not normally circulate; however, these items can be loaned overnight at the discretion of the Library Director. Reference items accrue an overdue fine of one dollar ($1.00) per day. Reference items cannot be renewed.

All items must be returned before the library closes by the due date. Items returned after hours will be checked in on the next business day.

All items have a maximum fine cap of three dollars ($3.00) for a single item.

Any individual patron who has a total fine in the amount of five dollars ($5.00) or greater, or who has any fine that is ninety (90) days or older (regardless of amount), will have their library privileges suspended until the fine is paid. This suspension is extended to all individuals that live at the same address as the patron to prevent delinquent patrons from continuing to checkout materials under the privileges of other patrons.

A patron must present their library card to check out materials. A card is initially issued to each patron free of charge. Lost cards must be replaced by the patron at a cost of three dollars ($3.00).
